DR Congo Hit By Fresh Ebola Outbreak

Mumbai: The Democratic Republic of Congo has announced that the country has detected the emergence of the Ebola virus outbreak in its Equateur Province.

About 6 cases of Ebola virus have been reported out of which 5 have died including a 15-year-old girl as confirmed by the WHO.

“This is a reminder that COVID-19 is not the only health threat that the people face. Although much of our attention is on the pandemic, WHO is continuing to monitor and respond to many other health emergencies”, says Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, WHO.

WHO has sent teams to Mbandaka supporting the response of the outbreak. The authorities said that contact tracing is a useful way to track the infection.

Ebola Virus was the largest epidemic in the year 2014- 2016 in western African countries like Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. The virus had infected over 28 thousand people and more than 11 thousand had died.
