DRDO Conducts Successful Flight Test Of High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target
Mumbai: In a recent development Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested flight of ABHYAS — high-speed expendable aerial target (HEAT) from Interim Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha.
In a release issued by the Ministry of Defense, “Flight tests were tracked by various radar and electro-optic systems and proved their performance in a completely autonomously navigation mode.”

Pilotless target aircraft is used to test various types of missiles by DRDO and three services, including air-to-air missile and surface-to-air missiles.
The release further said, “The configuration of ABHYAS has been prepared on an in-line small gas turbine engine and uses indigenously developed MEMS-based navigation system for its navigation and guidance.”
The system was demonstrated according to simulation and demonstrated the capacity of ABHYAS to meet the mission requirement for cost-effective DAT ABHYAS is an advanced spendable target that can be used to simulate different types of aircraft and missiles.
