DRDO To Help ISRO With Tech For India’s 1st Manned Space Mission

Mumbai: India’s premier defence research organization, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), will provide key technologies for India’s first manned mission, scheduled to be carried out before the 75th year of independence.

On Tuesday, DRDO signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to offer technologies for the mission, including space meals, survival kits for the crew, radiation safety equipment and parachutes.

ISRO has set a target for the Gaganyaan mission, a first manned space mission, by 2022. ISRO plans to send seven astronauts into space for seven days, a crew capsule that will be launched with the help of geosynchronous launches. Vehicle (GSLV). The mission is a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Defense Ministry officials said that as part of the effort of cooperation between ISRO and DRDO, the human-centric system required for the mission would be developed. A group of departments and laboratories working under DRDO also signed MoUs with ISRO.

On the occasion, DRDO President G. Satesh Reddy said that existing technical capabilities for defence applications would be adapted to meet the requirements of manned space missions.

Earlier this month, the Indian Air Force made an initial shortlist of test pilots to ship Gaganyaan. The pilots have been selected after clinical, radiological and physical tests. One of the three crew is expected to be female.
