Drunk Man Driving SUV Hits Many People, Vehicles In Assam; 15 Hurt

Mumbai: Fifteen people were injured in Silchar town on Friday night as an allegedly drunk man went on a rampage with his SUV, indiscriminately hitting people and vehicles until he was finally stopped by a bad road, police reported on Saturday.

The chaotic incident began near the municipal office, where the SUV first struck three individuals. In an attempt to flee, the driver injured three more people at Capital Point. The SUV then collided with three motorbikes and several e-rickshaws on Trunk Road near the radio station.

As the rampage continued, concerned residents began following the SUV on their two-wheelers. The pursuit ended at Tennis Club Point, where the vehicle was forced to a halt due to the poor condition of the road.

Police quickly arrived at the scene, taking both the SUV and the driver into custody. According to a police officer, several bottles of liquor were found inside the vehicle.

“A total of 15 people were injured in the incident,” the officer stated, confirming the extent of the damage caused by the driver’s reckless behaviour.

The event has triggered widespread panic and concern in Silchar, highlighting the dangers of drunk driving. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to prevent such incidents in the future.
