DU Professor’s Home Searched By Cops, Alleged Of Provocative Speech

Mumbai:  A Team of the Pune Police on Tuesday conducted search operation at the residence of academic-activist, Dr. Hany Babu M.T., in Noida, in connection with the Elgaar Parishad case.

The police team comprised Assistant Commissioner of Police (Swargate division) Shivaji Pawar, the investigating officer in the case along with Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Bachchan Singh and others.

The police have alleged that the caste violence was aggravated after provocative speeches were made at a conclave organized to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Koregaon-Bhima battle between the Maratha and the British armies. Nine activists have been arrested in the case.

Action against Hany Babu, an English professor at DU, was taken in the same case, the police said.

“Today the Pune police entered our house at 6.30 in the morning. They said that Hany Babu (my husband) who teaches at Delhi University English Department, is involved in the Bhima Koregaon case and for this, they could search the house without a search warrant. They searched the house for up to 6 hours, took three books and his laptop, phone, hard disks and pen drives. They just left now,” Jenny Rowena, the professor’s wife, wrote on Facebook.

“We have conducted a search operation at Babu’s residence in Noida in connection with the Elgaar Parishad case registered at the Vishrambaug police station in Pune,” Mr. Pawar was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

Assistant Commissioner Shivaji Pawar said no arrest was made during the search operation at Mr. Babu’s house, news agency PTI reported.
