EC Issues Notice To UP CM Yogi Adityanath For His ‘Biryani To Terrorists’ Remark Against Kejriwal

Mumbai: The Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his remarks against his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal.

The development comes just 48 hours before the much-awaited Delhi assembly election 2020.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said on 3 February that a Pakistani minister was supporting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal because only he knew that Kejriwal could only ‘feed’ the biryani to the protesters in Shaheen Bagh. He said this while addressing an election rally in Vikaspuri area.

“Why is a Pakistani minister making a statement in support of Arvind Kejriwal? Because they know that only Kejriwal can feed Biryani to the protesters in Shaheen Bagh, ”Adityanath said.

However, his statement attracted the attention of the Election Commission as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) remains in force till the end of elections in the national capital. He received the Election Commission notice for violating the MCC.

Shaheen Bagh has reportedly become the site of protests for several elderly women who have been agitating for over a month over the Centre’s controversial Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

The CAA, which has organized violent protests across the country, seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Zoroastrians, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, if on 31 December 2014 or Before that we enter India.
