EC Revokes Kamal Nath’s Star Campaigner Status Over Multiple Violations

Mumbai: The Election Commission on Friday revoked Congress leader Kamal Nath’s star campaigner status over multiple Model Code of Conduct violations ahead of by-polls in Madhya Pradesh.

This comes after Kamal Nath referred to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan as “mafia” and “milawat khor”. Earlier, the leader was issued a notice by EC for referring to BJP leader Imarti Devi as ‘item’.

Issuing a notice, the Election Commission said that if any campaign is conducted by Kamal Nath from now on, the entire proposal will be borne by the candidate whose constituency is being campaigned.

This development has come at a time when campaigning for by-elections for the state assembly is going on in Madhya Pradesh.

The SC said that Kamal Nath violated the code of conduct by campaigning for the by-elections in the 28 assembly constituencies of the state. It said that Kamal Nath would not be given any permission by the authorities as a star campaigner.
