EC To Announce The Schedule For Assembly Elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal And Puducherry

Mumbai: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the election schedule (election dates) for the West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assembly elections on Friday.

The poll panel will address a press conference in which it will announce assembly election dates for 4 states – West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and 1 union territory – Puducherry.

Voting for the 294-member assembly in West Bengal is scheduled for April-May. The term of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly expires on 30 May. Last month, CEC Sunil Arora informed that Bengal would have 1,071,790 polling stations for the 2021 assembly elections and that every booth should be made accessible to persons with disabilities. Earlier, there were 78,903 polling stations in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that the elections are expected to be held in more than one phase, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
