ED Attaches Anil Deshmukh’s Properties Worth Rs 4.2 Crore In PMLA Case

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth around Rs 4 crore against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and his family under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in an alleged money laundering case.

The central probe agency attached a flat and a large piece of land near the proposed Navi Mumbai airport.

Notably, the book value of these properties is more than Rs 4 crore and the builder value can exceed Rs 100 crore.

The attached assets are in the name of his wife Aarti Deshmukh and the company Premier Port Links Pvt Ltd.

The attached property is in the form of a residential flat worth Rs 1.54 crore, located at Worli, Mumbai and with 25 land parcels with a book value of Rs 2.67 crore, located at Dhootum village, Uran, Raigad district, Maharashtra.

Deshmukh was forced to resign as Maharashtra Home Minister after a case was registered with the Maharashtra Police under PMLA related to Rs 100 crore bribe-cum-extortion racket. Notably, sacked police officer Sachin Vaze had claimed to the Enforcement Directorate that he had allegedly collected Rs 4.70 crore from a bar in Mumbai on the orders of Deshmukh.

ED money on the basis of FIR under Section 120-B of IPC, 1860 and Section 7 of PC Act 1988 for recovery by CBI Deshmukh and others for attempting to obtain undue advantage for the unfair and dishonest performance of their public duty for collection of funds to achieve the target of Rs 100 crore per month from various bars, restaurants and other establishments in Mumbai.

“Investigation under PMLA has revealed that Anil Deshmukh while serving as the Home Minister of the State of Maharashtra, with dishonest intent, through Sachin Waze, the then Assistant Police Inspector of Mumbai Police, collected about Rs 4.70 crore in cash from various orchestra bars. Received. Owners. Obtained illegally. Further, with the help of Delhi based dummy companies, the Deshmukh family laundered the tainted money of Rs 4.18 Crore and projected it as untainted by showing the same amount received in the Trust namely Shri Sai Shikshan Sanstha,” a release issued by the ED said.

The residential flat in Worli was bought in the name of Aarti Deshmukh and the entire amount was paid in cash. However, the sale deed was done in the month of February 2020 when Anil Deshmukh was the Home Minister of Maharashtra.

“Further Deshmukh family has acquired the 50 per cent ownership in M/s Premier Port Links Pvt. Ltd. including its assets i.e. land and shops totally valued at approximately Rs 5.34 Crore (Book Value) by merely paying amount of Rs 17.95 lakh, that too after a substantial gap,” the ED further stated.
