Explosion At US Embassy In Kabul, On 9/11 Anniversary

Mumbai: Explosion took place near the US Embassy in Afghanistan’s Kabul,  the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the United States. However, no casualties or injuries were reported and the officials at the compound declared all-clear after the blast.

The explosion was caused by a rocket. After the explosion, a smog of smoke erupted in central Kabul.

No official statement has yet been released by Afghan officials on the incident. The NATO mission, which is nearby, said none of the workers were injured.

Although no group claimed responsibility for the blast, it was the first major attack in the Afghan capital as US President Donald Trump abruptly called off peace talks with the Taliban.

It was the first major attack in the Afghan capital as President Donald Trump abruptly called off US-Taliban talks over the weekend, on the verge of a clear deal to end America’s longest war.

The US president on Saturday closed peace talks with the Taliban over the Kabul car bombing, killing 12 people, including an American soldier. He canceled a “secret meeting” with representatives of the group at Camp David in the wake of an attack by the Taliban on 7 August.

“Unbeknownst to almost everyone, the major Taliban leaders and, separately, the President of Afghanistan, were going to secretly meet with me at Camp David on Sunday. They were coming to the United States tonight,” he tweeted.

“Unfortunately, in order to build false leverage, they admitted to an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great-great soldiers, and 11 other people. I immediately canceled the meeting and called off peace negotiations,” Trump said in another tweet.

Following Trump’s decision, the Taliban warned that the lives of more Americans will be lost.

“This will lead to more losses to the US… Its credibility will be affected, its anti-peace stance will be exposed to the world, losses to lives and assets will increase,” the terror group said in a statement.
