Fadnavis Resigns As Maharashtra CM Hours Before Deadline To Form Govt Ends

Mumbai: BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis resigned as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Friday, hours before the deadline for the formation of the state government was over.

He submitted his resignation to Governor BS Koshyari at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. This comes amid ’50:50′ formula and the party’s ongoing tensions with the Shiv Sena for the post of the chief minister.

“This is not the way to form a coalition government. Maharashtra is not a small state. We, the BJP, have never fallen ill with Shiv Sena or Shiv Sena leaders. I am very close to Uddhavji. But Shiv Sena is abusing us. This is not a way to form a government, ”Fadnavis said.

“The governor has asked me to be the acting CM,” he added.

On the other hand, Sina showed no signs of yielding as Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut reiterated Shiv Sena’s claim of a 50:50 deal with BJP before entering into an alliance.
