Farm Bill: Congress Threatens Nationwide Protest With 2 Crore Signature Of Farmers

Mumbai: The Congress on Monday threatened to go on a nationwide agitation and launched a mass movement to protest against the Centre’s farm law, including the march and signature of 2 crore farmers for a memorandum to be presented before President Ram Nath Kovind.

The protest was decided during a meeting of Congress general secretaries and state in-charge at the party’s 24 Akbar Road headquarters.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel said that the party will raise the issue of the Farm Bill not only at the state level but also at the village and district level.

“We discussed the political situation of the country, especially the farmers’ movement. The way the Indian government is implementing anti-farmer laws in Parliament is completely unacceptable for the country and the people of India. From what we saw in the Rajya Sabha yesterday and today, we did not expect such an attitude from the democratic government, ”KC Venugopal, Patel, AK Antony, and Randeep Surjewala told the press conference after the meeting.

The bill is part of three agricultural-related legislations, for which the government brought ordinances. Two Bills have already been passed by the Parliament, which also creates a huge uproar in the Upper House on Sunday.
