Farm Bill: Farmer Protest At India Gate Sets Tractor On Fire, Five Arrested

Mumbai: Following the Farm Bill passed in both parliaments, the farmers’ protest has been intensified against the centre and a tractor was set on fire at the India Gate.

Captured in the camera, the incident took place at 7:15 am at a location in central Delhi. The tractor has been removed by the police and the fire department has put the fire under control.

“Around 15- 20 persons gathered here & tried to set a tractor on fire. The fire has been doused off & the tractor was also removed. Those involved are being identified. Probe underway,” the Delhi Police said.

Following the incident five people residents of Punjab have been detained for burning the tractor and legal action has been initiated.

Reportedly, the movement towards India Gate has been banned due to opposition from farmers, and vehicles entering the area are being thoroughly investigated.

Notably, there have been fierce protests in Punjab and Haryana since last week as farmers voiced at various places and organized sit-ins.

Farmers and opposition members from across the country joined the nationwide strike on Friday. Farmers have also blocked the Amritsar-Delhi railway track in protest against ‘Stop the Rail’ ending in three days.

Notably, President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday approved the three ordinances into laws despite a nationwide uproar, leaving farmers at the “mercy” of corporates.
