Farmers Protest: After PM Narendra Modi’s Invite, Kisans Say Ready For Talks

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday assured the farmers that the minimum support price (MSP) would continue and invited the protesting farmers to end the deadlock over the next month of negotiations, following which agitating farmer leaders said that they are ready for the next meeting and asked the centre to choose a date for discussion.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha member and farmer leader Shiv Kumar Kakka said that they are ready for the next round of talks and the government should inform them the date and time of the meeting.

Kakka told PTI, “We have never refused to negotiate with the government. Whenever it has called us to negotiate, we discussed it with the Union ministers. We are ready for talks with them (government).”

Vikas comes after PM Modi, responding to the President’s address on the motion of thanks in the Rajya Sabha, stating that ‘MSP (Minimum Support Price) tha, MSP hai aur MSP rahega’.

It may be noted that the central government and the protesting farmers have held 11 round of talks over the three contentious farm laws which were passed during the Monsoon session in September 2020.

Hundreds of farmers are protesting at various Delhi borders against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.
