Farmers’ Protests Intensify In Karnal, 40 Police Companies Deployed

Mumbai: Farmers’ protests have intensified amid the call for a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Karnal on Tuesday. Police said the district administration and police are warning such mischievous elements not to take the law into their hands and maintain public order.

The Haryana government has deployed heavy security as the farmers plan to assemble and gherao the mini secretariat.

Farmers have gathered in the grain market of Karnal, Haryana, from where they will gherao the mini secretariat. Wherever he has put up barricades, he has announced to break them.

The farmers want the Haryana government to take action against the police officers involved in the lathi charge in which several people were injured. They also demanded suspension of the officials who had directed the police to retaliate against the farmers crossing the barricades.

The Haryana government has sent heavy force to ensure that there is no disturbance in the law and order situation. Internet and SMS services have been suspended today in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Panipat to prevent “spread of inflammatory content and rumours”.

“We want the Kisan Mahapanchayat to be held peacefully and the dispute should be resolved through mutual dialogue,” he said. Yesterday, we spoke to the farmer leaders in this matter. Police will take action if law and order breaks down.

“District administration and police have made necessary security arrangements in wake of the Kisan Mahapanchayat. A total of 40 companies have been deployed to maintain law and order. Public activities are going on without interruption,” Ganga Ram Punia, SP, Karnal said.

Farmers have been demanding the withdrawal of the three farm laws in protests on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year.
