FIR Against Yuvraj Over Casteist Remark On Chahal During 2020 Instagram Live Chat

Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in Haryana over his alleged ‘casteist remark’ on Yuzvendra Chahal during an Instagram live chat with Rohit Sharma from 2020.

The comment by the former all-rounder was seen as disrespectful to the Dalit community and also saw Yuvraj apologizing on social media later.

A lawyer from Hisar in Haryana filed a police complaint against Yuvraj for his ‘casteist remarks’. According to an India Today report, eight months after the complaint, the Haryana Police has now filed an FIR in the case. Hansi police station of Hisar has registered a case under sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of SC / ST Act.

The ‘casteist remarks’ by Yuvraj were allegedly made during a live chat on Instagram with Indian batsman Rohit Sharma. During the chat, Yuvraj used the word ‘B *** G’ to refer to Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The former all-rounder was subsequently slammed by many on social media for his distasteful remarks.

“Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep),” – Yuvraj had told Rohit while speaking about Chahal’s TikTok videos.

“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit had replied.

After facing heat on social media for his ‘derogatory’ comments, Yuvraj had apologized and said that he never believed in inequality

“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” Yuvraj said.
