Five States Account For 72% Of India’s Active Cases: Govt

Mumbai: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported on Saturday that Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala together account for 72.23 per cent of India’s total active COVID-19 cases. Of this, Maharashtra alone accounts for 51.23% of the total active caseload.

The active caseload tally has once again crossed the 10-lakh mark after about six and a half months.

India on Saturday reported a one-day single record of 1,45,384 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 1,32,05,926. Maharashtra once again recorded the highest 58,993 in a day, 11,447 in Chhattisgarh and 9,587 in Uttar Pradesh.

India’s total active caseload is 10,46,631, which is 7.93% of the country’s total positive cases.

The ten districts – Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Bangalore Urban, Nashik, Delhi, Raipur, Durg and Aurangabad – constitute 45.65 per cent of the total active cases in India.

The government said that a net increase of 67,023 cases has been registered in total active cases in a 24-hour period.

“Ten states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan, have shown a rise in the daily new Covid cases, and 82.82% of the new cases are reported from these 10 states,” the Health Ministry recorded.

India’s cumulative recovery is now 1,19,90,859.

“Daily deaths continue to show an upward trend. A total of 794 deaths were reported in a span of 24 hours,” the ministry said, adding that 10 states account for as much as 86.78 per cent of the new fatalities.

Maharashtra recorded the maximum deaths at 301, followed by Chhattisgarh at 91.
