FM Announces Rs 1 lakh Crore For Agriculture Infrastructure

Mumbai: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a package of Rs 1 lakh crore for the Agriculture infrastructure in her third tranche of the mega stimulus economic package.

Lack of adequate cold chain and Post Harvest Management infrastructure in the vicinity of farm-gate cause gaps in value chains said FM.

“Financing facility of Rs. 1,00,000 crore will be provided for funding Agriculture Infrastructure Projects at farm-gate & aggregation points like Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, Farmers Producer Organisations, Agriculture entrepreneurs, Start-ups,” said Sitharaman.

FM said that the focus is on short term crop loans but the investment is long and the funds will be created immediately.

FM also announced Rs 500 crores scheme for Beekeeping initiatives and it is supposed that it will increase the income of 2 lakh beekeepers.

Scheme for beekeeping infrastructure development is related to Integrated Beekeeping Development Centres, Collection, Marketing and Storage Centres, Post Harvest & value Addition facilities etc.

Beekeeping is supporting livelihood activity for many in rural areas.
