Former TMC Leader Suvendu Adhikari Joins BJP At Amit Shah’s Rally

Mumbai: TMC leader and West Bengal political heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP on Saturday in presence of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Adhikari, a former close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, joined the party along with TMC MP Sunil Mondal, nine sitting MLAs, including five from the state’s ruling party at Shah’s rally in Midnapore.

After joining the BJP, Adhikari, an influential leader of West Bengal with a mass base, vowed to oust the Mamata Banerjee regime in the 2021 assembly elections and expressed confidence that the saffron party would form the next government in the state.

Apart from the officer, other TMC MLAs joined the BJP – Banasari Maiti, Silbhadrada Dutta, Biswajit Kundu, Sukra Munda and Saikat Panj.

MLA Deepali Biswas, who successfully contested the 2016 assembly elections as a CPI (M) candidate but joined the TMC in 2018, was also inducted into the BJP. Other MLAs joining the BJP include CPI’s Tapasi Mandal, CPI’s Ashok Dinda, and Congress’s Sudeep Mukherjee.

Former TMC MP Dasarth Tirkey and several district-level leaders of the TMC, Left, and Congress, including former minister Shyamaprasad Mukherjee also changed sides and joined the BJP.
