Four Held And One Absconding, For Gang-Raping A Mentally Challenged 20 Year Old
Mumbai: Rape, sexual assault and violence against women are severe human rights violations, yet they remain widespread around the globe. Although men and boys experience gender-based violence as well, women around the world are disproportionately affected by sexual violence.
Saki Naka police on Wednesday arrested four people, including a minor, on charges of gang-raping a 20-year-old mentally challenged woman in Sakinaka. The fifth suspect is on the run, police said. The survivor was taken to a hillock on Tuesday (August 20), she returned home at night and told her parents about her ordeal.
The five accused have been identified as Baban Salvi, Mohammed Khan, Deepak Mane, Prathamesh Gandhi and a 17-year-old who is known to the survivor. “On the pretext of taking a stroll, they lured the survivor to the hillock and assaulted her,” said a police officer.
The survivor went missing around 3 pm. When she didn’t return till late, her parents went searching for her and finally approached the police. Based on their complaint, police tracked the accused. They have been booked for wrongful restraint, gangrape and criminal intimidation. They are in police custody. The minor accused has been sent to a correction home.
