Mumbai: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Monday slammed the government on the issue of hike in petrol and diesel prices, calling her silence on the matter extremely sad.
Petrol and diesel prices on Monday were hiked for the seventh day in a row as a rally in international oil prices took retail rates in India to new highs.
In a tweet in Hindi, she said, “The prices of petrol and diesel in the country are skyrocketing, and crores of hardworking people and those from the middle class are repeatedly calling for help. But on this important issue of public welfare, the government is a silent spectator, which is extremely sad”.

The relentless hike in prices has been criticised by the opposition parties, including Congress that has demanded an immediate cut in taxes to ease the burden on the common man.
Petrol price was increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 29 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.
