Gangrape Was Filmed, Accused Demanded ₹3 Lakh: Mysuru Rape Survivor’s Friend

Mumbai: After an MBA student was gang-raped by six men in Karnataka’s Mysuru, the survivor’s friend said the accused filmed the act and demanded ₹3 lakh for not releasing video clips online.

On the evening of August 24, the MBA student and her male friend were on their way to Chamundi hills when they were stopped by a gang of at least four drunk youths. The youths gang-raped the girl student and also assaulted her friend.

The victim’s friend, in her statement to the police on Friday, said that the gang members attacked her with sticks before hitting her on the forehead with a stone. As a result, he lost consciousness.

“When I woke up I saw four people around me. I asked where my classmate was. Two of them dragged her out of the bus and made her lie next to me. She looked unconscious and was seriously injured,” a report in The Times of India quoted a friend of the survivor as saying

The victim’s friend further said that the rapists recorded videos of the act. He called his father to arrange Rs 3 lakh. The rapists threatened that they would make the video clip viral in cyberspace, he refused to give them the amount.

Later, her father reached the spot in a car and took the victim to a medical facility for treatment, the police said. The four-wheeler has been confiscated.

The police have registered a case under sections 376 (d) (gang rape) and 397 (dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code. Director-General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood has been directed to oversee the investigation of the case. Notably, no arrest has been made so far.
