Gen Bipin Rawat To Be Superannuating Today, Set To Take Over As India’s First CDS

Mumbai: In a recent development, Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat will be supernotting on Tuesday after serving three years as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). He will now serve as CDS by March 2022.

According to a government order, General Rawat has been appointed as CDS effective December 31.

“The government has decided to appoint General Rawat as Chief of Defense Staff from December 31 and until further orders and extensions in General Rawat’s service with effect from December 31, and the period he holds the office of CDS. , “said the Ministry of Defense.

General Rawat will be given a Tri-Service Guard of Honor after he takes over as CDS on 1 January 2020. According to a defense official, the CDS office will be in the South Block.

The new Army Chief, General Manoj Mukund Narwane, will also be given the Guard of Honor of the Army tomorrow to take command of the force.

General Rawat was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles on December 16, 1978.

Last week, the Cabinet Committee on Security put forward the creation of the CDS, which will serve as the chief military advisor to the Defense Minister on all issues regarding the tri-services.

As the first CDS of India, General Rawat will also appoint the newly-formed Department of Military Affairs. He will also serve as the military advisor to the Atomic Command Authority.
