Gen MM Naravane Takes Over As India’s 28th Army Chief

He led the National Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and the infantry contingent in the Northeast

Mumbai: In a recent development, Manoj Mukund Naravane took over as the chief of Army staff following General Bipin Rawat is superannuating today and he will take over as the country’s first Chief of Defence Staff tomorrow.

Before taking command of the Indian Army, General Narwane served as the Vice President of the 1.3 million-strong force.

General Narvana has served in many command and staff appointments in the army for 37 years so far. He has worked in peace, region and highly active insurgency situations in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.

He led the National Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and the infantry contingent in the Northeast. Before he served as the army’s vice president, General Narvane headed the Eastern Command which secures a nearly 4,000-kilometer border with China.
