Girl Jumps Off School Building To Escape 5 Men Trying To Gangrape Her In Odisha

Mumbai: A girl has suffered critical injuries after jumping off the roof of a school building in Odisha’s Jajpur district while trying to escape a gang rape attempt by five men, police said.

The five accused, who had earlier advised him and his brother to take shelter in the school due to heavy rains, were taken into custody.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital in Kalinga Nagar in critical condition.

Police said the incident happened on Sunday night when the girl, a resident of Keonjhar district, was on her way to her sister’s house in Sukinda Chromite Valley along with her brother.

When they got off a bus, it was raining heavily in the area and a group of men suggested that they stay in the school building for the night and go to their destination when the rain stopped. He obeyed her and took refuge there.

However, the five men returned late in the night and assaulted the brother. Police said that when they tried to rape the girl, she went to the roof of the school building and jumped from there and seriously injured herself.

Local people reached the spot after hearing his brother’s request for help and informed the police.

Police personnel reached the village, rescued the girl and admitted her to the hospital.

“Based on the statement of the victim’s brother, all five people have been detained. Interrogation is underway,” said P B Rout, IIC of Kalinga Nagar police station.
