Giving A Boost To Manufacturing Technology: CMTI & Atria Institute Of Technology (AIT) Sign MoU To Undertake Joint R&D In Core Technology Areas

CMTI & AIT recognizes each other as centres of excellence. The MoU allows both institutions to share technology, talent, and knowledge pool giving boost to research opportunities in India

Mumbai: The Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bangalore, and the Atria Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangalore have decided to join forces in a bid to give a boost to technology R&D in Karnataka. The two premier institutes will come together in the fields of micromachining, green manufacturing, smart manufacturing, industrial ergonomics, additive manufacturing, welding, machining, finishing, metrology and other advanced manufacturing technology areas, with a focus on research and development of technology. The partnership will aid the student community, the industry as well as the manufacturing sector at large.

CMTI and AIT signed a memorandum of understanding today in Bengaluru outlining the terms of the partnership and the focus areas of study.

CMTI is an autonomous multidisciplinary institute operating under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India with a clear mandate for research and development. Set up under the Mysore Societies Act, the CMTI has been undertaking research for over 30 years in the manufacturing sector.

Atria Institute, affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum, is a premier institute of excellence in the field of engineering and manufacturing, and a centre of learning for aspirants in the manufacturing sector. Atria is quickly becoming a busy hub for research activities in Additive manufacturing, Nanotechnologies, Digital manufacturing.

Talking to press at the MoU signing event, Dr Nagahanumaiah Director of the CMTI said, “We see immense opportunity for each other in this partnership. I see a lot of manufacturing-related R&D efforts happening at AIT and I am truly excited to see AIT leveraging CMTI, while on their journey to become a premier Manufacturing R&D hub.”

Talking about the role of Education institutions, Sunder Raju, Chairman Atria said, “We are on a mission to radically transform the role of Education Institutions in India. Educational Institutions should be the centre of research & development required to solve the problems facing Industries. The highly immersive experiential learning approach is required to develop an Industry ready workforce. Our partnership with CMTI is a step toward this direction. We need to continuously and relentlessly refresh learning curriculum, content, and delivery methods to make sure students remain industry relevant and continue to push the envelope to Innovate.”

Under the MoU, both institutes will recognize each other as centres of excellence, allowing faculty, students and researchers to make use of each other’s facilities for research purposes and for development and deployment of new manufacturing technology. further, CMTI and AIT will harness their complementary resources (the resource persons/faculty, the graduate/doctoral student fraternity of ait and the scientists of CMTI) in order to collaborate and leverage the facilities available at CMTI & AIT and expertise to work together to pursue co-operative research activities for the benefit of the manufacturing and machine tool sector at large.

Under the MoU, both institutes will also design industry-focused curriculum with vocational and research orientation for select engineering and management streams of study and launch certificate, diploma, degree and pg courses. Further, the AIT will offer short and medium term training programs, industrial consultancy at its Bangalore campus for students and scholars from both institutes.

The MoU will also aid in the development of job-ready manpower for the manufacturing sector, as well as helping for technology transfer & knowledge upgradation and research capability enhancement of the AIT faculty.

Further, this will allow opportunities for qualification enhancement of CMTI employees and development of capabilities and institutionalized platforms to work on the futuristic requirements of the manufacturing sector.
