Giving You 1 Chance, You Will Be Banned For Life If You Repeat Mistakes: WFI To Vinesh Phogat

Mumbai: Vinesh Phogat, who was temporarily suspended by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for alleged indiscipline, has been let off by the governing body.

The WFI said even though Vinesh’s reply to show-cause notice wasn’t satisfactory, she’ll be given one chance to rectify her mistakes.

However, in a letter addressed to the three wrestlers, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said that they would be ‘forced to impose life bans on all three for any future act of indiscipline.

“Even though your written reply to the show cause notice sent by you to the Wrestling Federation of India office was not satisfactory, the Wrestling Federation of India would like to give you one more chance to rectify your mistakes.” Sharan wrote in a letter dated August 24, 2021.

“Therefore, the Disciplinary Committee of the Wrestling Federation of India excuses you with a warning that if you repeat your mistakes, the Wrestling Federation of India will be compelled to impose a life ban on you.”

Information about this decision was given to all the wrestlers on Wednesday evening. WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar said all three wrestlers would be eligible to take part in the selection trials for the October World Championships next week, which will take place in Oslo, Norway.

“We will be conducting selection trials on August 31 in New Delhi. They will be allowed to take part in it,” Tomar said.

Vinesh, who was one of India’s medal prospects at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, lost in the opening round to Vanessa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus. Following their defeat, the enraged WFI issued show-cause notices for three alleged acts of indiscipline: refusing to be with Indian athletes, not training with them and not wearing official team jerseys for their matches.
