Glad That I Could Get Team Into Important Position: Rohit Sharma On 127(256)

Mumbai: India opener Rohit Sharma, who was named ‘Man of the Match’, for his 127-run innings that helped India set 368-run target for England, has said his maiden overseas hundred was “special” as it helped team get into an important position.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got the visitors off to a fantastic start in the second innings.

“I wanted to be on the field as long as I could. That century was special. We know how important the second innings was. Virat just mentioned the effort of the batsmen, and as a unit it was really important. It’s my first overseas hundred. Really glad that I could get the team into an important position,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation.

“The three-figure mark wasn’t in my mind, we knew the pressure on the batting unit so we kept our heads down and batted the situation. Once we got the lead, we just wanted to put pressure on the bowlers. I try to contribute for the team, it’s important for me,” he added.

Rohit’s century turned the tide in India’s favour. Other Indian batsmen also made useful contributions, helping the visitors set a mammoth target of 368. Then, the Indian bowlers made big time in the form of the superb talent of Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul’s all-rounder performance on the final day of the fourth Test.

In the match, Thakur defeated England by 157 runs to win the five-match series 2–1. This is also India’s first win in 50 years at the Oval.
