Goa Imposes Night Curfew From 11 pm to 6 am, Shuts Down Schools, Colleges till Jan 26

Mumbai: As Goa witnessed a spurt in daily COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate after New Year celebrations stood at 10.7%, the Goa government’s task force for COVID management has imposed a night curfew and several measures on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also announced that physical classes for schools and colleges would remain closed till January 26 in view of the rise in the number of Covid cases in the coastal state.

Night curfew will be imposed from 11 pm and will continue till 6 am. After the meeting of the state government task force on COVID management, Dr. Shekhar Salkar, a member of the state COVID task force, said on Monday, “Schools and colleges will remain closed in Goa till January 26 in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Online classes will be conducted during this period. The task force is headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

“The government is also imposing a night curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. A formal order will follow tonight or tomorrow. Restrictions will also be imposed on indoor functions,” he said.

Salkar also said that offline classes will not be conducted in schools and colleges, but students eligible for vaccination will be vaccinated in the school premises in the next few days, after which they need not visit their respective schools till January 26. Will be

Salkar also said that the infection rate in the coastal state had crossed an average of 5 per cent, which was the reason why the task force had decided to shut down schools and impose a night curfew.
