Goa Polls: I’ve Won With Low Margins, But BJP Won With Majority, Says Pramod Sawant

Mumbai: Amidst the counting of votes, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the assembly elections with a majority.

Sawant also said that in the 40-member Goa Assembly, 20 seats have been confirmed for the BJP, while for three seats, the party has “confirmed support”.

Speaking to ANI, Sawant said, “I won by a small margin but we (BJP) won with a majority. It is a big deal. 20 seats have been confirmed, three have confirmed their support.”

As Sawant once again retained the Sanquelim constituency by defeating Congress candidate Dharmesh Sagalani by a margin of over 650 votes, he said, “It was very challenging for me as I was campaigning state-wise but couldn’t reach my own constituency. My workers campaigned for me.”

Earlier today, Sawant also said that independent MLA Chandrakant Shetye has extended support to the BJP. According to the latest polling trends of the Election Commission of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party is inching closer to achieving the half mark in Goa, winning 14 seats and maintaining a lead in 6 assembly seats.

The BJP contested all 40 seats in the state, while the Goa Forward Party (GFP) entered into a pre-poll alliance with the Congress. TMC ties up with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party for elections.
