Gujarat: Mass Cheating Reported, 959 Students Write Same Answers, Commits Same Mistakes

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a case of collective fraud has emerged from the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB). It involves more than 950 students in class 12 general streams. This incident is called the biggest incident of collective fraud in the recent history of the State Board.

Despite strict measures to check collective imitation, 959 students wrote answers to the same question. These students made the same mistakes in their answers too.

The board officials took action on several complaints and examined the answer sheets of examination centres closely from where such incidents were reported. The centres were mainly in Junagadh and Gir-Somnath districts.

In order to verify the claims of collective fraud, these students were called by the Examination Committee. He told the committee that the teachers answered them at the examination centres. The results of these students have been postponed till 2020 and they have failed in the subjects in which they allegedly betrayed.

Sources said that 959 students wrote the same answer for the same question in the same sequence and made the same mistakes.

Sources said that at one centre, more than 200 students wrote an essay, entitled “Dikri Ghar Ni Divdi (Daughter is the earthen lamp of the family),” in the same way.”

GSHSEE official said, “The Board is planning to cancel the examination centres in Amarpur (Gir-Somnath), Visnale (Junagadh) and Prachi-Pipla (Gir-Somnath) for the general stream.”

Sources went on adding that, any students of Botad, Surendranagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad had paid an annual fee of about Rs 35,000 in the form of external students in self-financed schools, however, they were shown as ‘regular’ students. Students claimed that they took part in classes only for two weeks.

Earlier in 2018, around 1,000 students were expelled for cheating during the Class 12 exams in Bihar.
