Gurmeet Ram Rahim Convicted In Journalist Murder Case

Mumbai: Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has found guilty in the case of a journalist’s murder on Friday,  whereas the quantum of punishment will be announced on January 17.

Other than Ram Rahim, three others have also been found guilty in the murder case.

GurmeetRam Rahim Singh is already in jail as he is serving a 20-year sentence for raping two of his female followers.

Ramchandra Chhatrapati, the journalist was shot and brought into the injuries as he wrote an article against Ram Rahim in a newspaper titled Poora Sach, about the sexual exploitation of women by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters.

Whereas earlier this week court-ordered Haryana government to present Rahim chief via video conference for the pronouncement of the verdict related to 2002 journalist murder case. 

The case was registered in 2003. Later it was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2006. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was named as the main conspirator in the case.

The special CBI court that delivered today’s judgment is in Panchkula, in Haryana. Haryana is also home to the headquarters of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s Dera Sacha Sauda sect, located in Sirsa.

Looking forward to today’s verdict high-security arrangements have been made in Haryana and parts of Punjab.

Last year on 25 August violence erupted in Panchkula and Sirsa after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in the rape case. Over 40 people died and dozens of them were injured.
