Gurugram Police Bust Sex Racket Operated Through WhatsApp, Accused Apprehended
Mumbai: In a decisive operation, Gurugram Police have successfully apprehended a man suspected of running a sex racket via the messaging platform WhatsApp. The accused, identified as Babul Shaikh, was captured following a meticulously planned trap that exposed his illicit activities.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Shaikh utilized WhatsApp as a tool to conduct his nefarious business. His phone served as a repository of illicit materials, housing pictures and contact details of numerous women involved in the racket, providing authorities with crucial digital evidence.
The operation to capture Shaikh was set in motion after receiving a tip-off about his activities. Undercover officers were deployed, with one posing as a potential customer and initiating contact with Shaikh through WhatsApp. As the conversation progressed, Shaikh brazenly shared photographs of multiple women and even negotiated their “rates,” further confirming suspicions regarding his criminal enterprise.
To ensnare Shaikh, the undercover officer agreed to a deal worth Rs. 8,000, with a pre-determined meeting location set at a hotel on Old Railway Road. Unbeknownst to Shaikh, a team of police officers lay in wait at the designated spot.
As Shaikh arrived at the hotel accompanied by two women, the pre-arranged transaction began. However, before any exchange could take place, law enforcement swiftly intervened, apprehending Shaikh and recovering the agreed-upon sum of money. A subsequent search of Shaikh’s phone unearthed additional incriminating evidence, including the aforementioned photographs of women involved in the racket.
Currently, Babul Shaikh is undergoing interrogation by the police, providing details about his operation. Efforts are also underway to locate and apprehend his accomplice, identified as Anoop.
The successful bust of this sex racket underscores the Gurugram Police’s commitment to combatting illicit activities and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
