Hanuman Ansh Enters Rs 100 Crore Club After 31 Days, Defies Bollywood Box Office Trends

Mumbai: Vishal Chaturvedi’s devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has achieved a remarkable box office milestone, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India despite releasing with little publicity, an unknown lead cast and a reported budget of less than Rs 2 crore.

The film, based on the life of revered spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba, reached the milestone on its 31st day in theatres. According to the latest reported figures, Hanuman Ansh has collected approximately Rs 100.20 crore at the domestic box office.

The achievement is particularly notable because the film had a modest beginning and took more than a month to reach a figure that major Bollywood releases often target within their opening weekend.

Hanuman Ansh Crosses Rs 100 Crore On Fifth Sunday

Hanuman Ansh entered the Rs 100 crore club during its fifth weekend. By the end of its fifth Saturday, the film had accumulated around Rs 99.38 crore in India.

The movie added another Rs 16.50 crore on its fifth Saturday, registering a substantial jump over its fifth Friday earnings. On the fifth Sunday, it had earned another Rs 82 lakh at the time of the latest update, taking its overall collection beyond the coveted milestone.

Its sustained performance has turned the film into one of the most unexpected box office success stories of the year.

From Rs 10 Lakh Opening To Rs 100 Crore

The film’s journey has been anything but conventional.

Released on August 7 with only around 25 screens and limited publicity, Hanuman Ansh opened to approximately Rs 10 lakh on its first day. Its opening week ended with a modest Rs 1.08 crore, followed by just Rs 40 lakh in its second week.

However, the film witnessed a dramatic turnaround from its third week. Growing word-of-mouth and increasing audience interest resulted in a sharp rise in footfalls and screen count.

The film collected approximately Rs 10.40 crore in its third week, despite competition from other releases.

Its fourth week proved even more extraordinary, with the film reportedly earning around Rs 61 crore—a massive increase compared with its opening-week performance.

The unusual upward trajectory has made Hanuman Ansh a rare example of a film gaining momentum weeks after its theatrical release rather than experiencing the traditional post-opening decline.

Mirzapur: The Movie Fails To Halt Hanuman Ansh Momentum

The devotional drama also managed to maintain its momentum despite the arrival of Mirzapur: The Movie, directed by Gurmeet Singh.

The action-crime thriller, which expands the popular streaming franchise onto the big screen, opened strongly with approximately Rs 25.75 crore on Friday and around Rs 32 crore on Saturday.

Despite the new film enjoying a significantly larger theatrical footprint, Hanuman Ansh continued to attract audiences during its fifth weekend.

The devotional film’s fifth-Friday collection was reportedly higher than the corresponding fifth-Friday earnings of several major Hindi releases, highlighting the strength of its long-running word-of-mouth appeal.

Strong Word Of Mouth Drives Box Office Success

Unlike conventional Bollywood releases that rely heavily on star power, extensive marketing and a strong opening weekend, Hanuman Ansh has built its theatrical run gradually.

The film’s growing audience response resulted in more screens being added as its performance improved. The combination of devotional content and positive word of mouth appears to have helped it sustain theatrical interest well beyond its initial release period.

Its success also demonstrates the potential of smaller-budget films to find a large audience when they connect strongly with viewers.

What’s Next For Hanuman Ansh?

With the film now firmly established in the Rs 100 crore club, its theatrical run is expected to continue in the coming days.

However, its domestic run will face fresh competition from Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, which is scheduled to release on September 11.

That date will also mark another significant development for Hanuman Ansh. Hombale Films has acquired the film’s international distribution rights and is set to release it across overseas markets from September 11.

Director Vishal Chaturvedi has also indicated that a sequel could be explored, suggesting that the unexpected success of Hanuman Ansh could potentially mark the beginning of a larger franchise.

For now, the film’s journey from a Rs 10 lakh opening to a Rs 100 crore domestic collection stands out as one of the most remarkable sleeper-hit stories in recent Hindi cinema.
