Happy With Opportunities I am Getting, Want To Make Each One Count: Indian Women’s Forward: Sharmila Devi

Mumbai: The Indian women’s team forward Sharmila Devi, who has proved herself in recent times, want to take full advantage of every opportunity that she is getting from the senior.

This would be his first match for the Indian team in the 2019 Tokyo Test event, or FIH Olympic qualifier, where she showed her raw talent by scoring a crucial goal against the USA, which won the team 5–1 in the first match.

Sharmila said in a press statement, “In 2019 I played my first match for the senior team and since then I am getting a great performance with the team and I am happy to receive these opportunities and want to make each one count,” said Sharmila as per a press statement from Hockey India.

The 19-year-old, hailing from Hisar, Haryana, lauded Hockey India’s efforts in ensuring the tour despite these circumstances due to the pandemic. Sharmila also feels that this performance in Argentina will be good as the team prepares for the prestigious Olympic Games.

In Argentina’s recent India tour, she scored twice in low-scoring games for India, which proved crucial for a top-quality team like Argentina, who are ranked No. 2 in the world. Forwards also took the field when they returned to the national camp on 14 February 2021.

Sharmila said, “The Indian team was playing against Argentina after almost four years. The senior players who had played against Argentina earlier in 2017, recalled how strong a team they are and how important it is for us to execute our plans perfectly,” said Sharmila.

She said, “Although we were quite effective against them and came very close to winning, I felt that we should do a lot more work on changing the opportunities in the circle. We were doing enough more circle entries, but in converting Were unable.”
