Hathras Gangrape Case: NCP Slams Yogi Adityanath Govt

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party slammed the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath following Hathras gang-rape victim’s family being allegedly denied the right to perform her last rites.

Amid allegations by the 19-year-old victim’s family that local police forced them to cremate the deceased at night, Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil termed it “inhuman and unfortunate”.

The body of a Dalit woman who died in a Delhi hospital on Tuesday, a fortnight after the gang rape, was cremated in Hathras in the early hours of Wednesday.

Patil in a tweet in Hindi said, “In the absence of her family members, the funeral of the daughter of India was performed during the early hours. This behavior of the Uttar Pradesh government is inhuman and unfortunate.”

“Daughters are not being respected when they are alive nor when they are dead,” he said.

Maharashtra’s Minority Affairs Minister and NCP National Spokesperson Nawab Malik accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of denying the gang-rape victim of killing every single person.

“A 2.30 am cremation with the family cordoned off and the body burnt by the police!

The #UPPolice became complicit in depriving #HathrasVictim of every single human right, even in death. This vividly replicates the ordinance of sheer failure of the #UpGovernment.”

“I strongly condemn this inhuman and shameful act by the #UPPolice and lend strength and support to the family of the deceased and demand a probe in the matter at the earliest, Malik tweeted.

“It is the time when the deductive use of the Centres Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme should be evaluated in real life to deliver justice and not just for gaining momentum on television to build vote banks,” he said.
