Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday raised the issue of phone tapping and made a veiled attack on the Prime Minister.

He used the latest jibe to hit out at PM Modi by quote tweeting his July 16 tweet asking Twitter users what books they have been reading recently. “I’m wondering what you guys are reading these days,” the tweet said.

Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said the government was “exploiting lives” and had not even spared the RSS leadership and that it was a “spy government”.

Indians in the spy database include more than 40 journalists, three prominent opposition figures, a constitutional authority, two serving ministers in the Narendra Modi government, current and former heads and officials of security organizations and several businessmen, The Wire reported on Sunday.

The Pegasus project is one of the numbers in the database that was registered in the name of a sitting Supreme Court judge. However, The Wire could not confirm that the number the judge had left out before it was added to the list was being used for WhatsApp and other encrypted messaging apps when the number was selected. was.

“We are withholding the name of the judge until we are able to establish the actual user of the number during the period under consideration,” it said.

The Wire and its partners said that they will also not be revealing the identity of any names that appear to be the subject of counter-terrorism.
