Heatwave Warning For Delhi, IMD Asks People To ‘Venture Out Carefully’

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department has a heatwave warning for Delhi. “Severe heatwave from June 4 in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan.

Temperature varies between 44°C-47°C. Shall continue for four more days,” an IMD scientist said, adding that people should venture out carefully as the heat spell is very severe.

IMD warned of heatwave conditions at isolated places in the national capital, which recorded a maximum temperature of 44.9 degrees Celsius a day earlier.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Monday was five notches above normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29.7 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. The minimum temperature is likely to be 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the isolated poor category on Tuesday morning. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the hourly air quality index (AQI) stood at 219 at 10 am. The 24-hour average AQI on Monday was 195, which was in the medium range high.

AQI between zero and 50 is ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and between 401 and 500 ‘poor’ considered ‘serious’.
