Heavy Snowfall At Kashmir, Airlines And Roadways Cut Down

Mumbai : Kashmir witnessed a heavy snowfall along the surface, due to which air connectivity was interrupted on Saturday.

Officials of the MeT department said there were moderate to heavy snowfall overnight in most places of Kashmir, including the plains of the valley.

The snowfall started in late evening on Friday continued in most parts of the valley this morning, they said, it is one of the most heavy snowfall in the plains of Kashmir in recent years.

10 inches snowfall was recorded in Srinagar by 8:30 a.m. and fresh snowfall of two feet was recorded at Gulmarg’s famous ski resort in north Kashmir. Officials said that 11 inches in Qazigund, three in Kokernag, 16 inches in Pahalgam, and 17 inches snowfall in Kupwara were recorded.

Heavy snowfall in the highlands of the valley, due to which the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and other road links have been closed, here a spokesman of the traffic control room said.

Snowfall disrupted air traffic to in Srinagar International Airport. The decision to operate other flights will be taken by the airlines and air traffic control if there is any improvement in the situation.

Normal life has also become disrupted by snowfall and the movement and transport of people has affected the people of Srinagar city and other districts of the valley. However, work of road clearance has been done in the valley by the concerned district administration.
