History Created As Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh Becomes UT

Mumbai: After the lots of efforts like the abduction of Article 370, terrorist attacks, cease-fires today is the day when the J&K will split into two different union terrorists. According to this Jammu and Kashmir will have the legislative Assembly on the lines of Puducherry and Delhi while Ladakh will sans one.

The act recognizes the state into two union territories, namely the eponymous union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and that of Ladakh.

The act provides that the administration of the Jammu and Kashmir will be as per Article 239 of the Indian constitution. A bill for the act was introduced by the Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, in the Rajya Sabha, on 5 August 2019 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The bill was passed in Rajya Sabha the same day and was passed by the Lok Sabha on 6 August 2019. It received the President’s assent on 9 August 2019.

Jammu and Kashmir have three distinct areas: Hindu-majority Jammu, Muslim-majority Kashmir, and Buddhist-dominated Ladakh. Violence and unrest persisted in the Indian-administered Muslim majority areas and, following a disputed state election in 1987, an insurgency persisted in protest over autonomy and rights.

The Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the 2014 Indian general election and had included in their 2019 election manifesto the revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India and the state’s splitting was decided.

Ladakh will be administered by the lieutenant governor alone. The union territory of Ladakh will include the districts of Leh and Kargil, while all other districts will be accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. Out of the six seats allocated to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, one will be allocated to Ladakh and five will be accorded to the Jammu and Kashmir union territory. The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir will function as the High Court for both the union territories.

Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court administered the oath of Radha Krishna Mathur as the L-G of Ladakh in Leh Thursday morning. Later in the day, the oath of Girish Chandra Murmu as the L-G of Jammu and Kashmir will be administered by Mittal in Srinagar.

Administrator office has shifted from Srinagar to Jammu the oath-taking ceremony will be at Srinagar to remark it.

Days after the removal of article 370, the government had also said that the state Jammu Kashmir will not stay as a UT for long period it will be restored at an appropriate time after normalcy returns.
