Hong Kong Protest: Teachers Take To Streets In Hong Kong

Mumbai: The teachers in Hong Kong went on the streets to supports the protests on Saturday. Teachers and the supporters will now start the weekend-long anti-government protests in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong police, however, could resort to more tougher tactics than that of the last time.

Hong Kong has been under the cloud of violence for two months now and this protest is just an addition of demonstration to catch the government’s eye and spread awareness amongst the people. According to Reuters, the demonstrators said that they are fighting for the erosion of one country two systems arrangement that enshrined some autonomy for Hong Kong since China took it back from Britain in 1997.

During the last few protests the police have resorted to harsher methods to get rid of the protestors, first in the mall, then the airport and the exercise of the Chinese army have only doubled the fears amongst Hong Kongers.

According to the reports, one of the teacher protestors appreciated the students and youth who participated in the protests, “I appreciate their courage and caring about Hong Kong. They are definitely braver than the government.”

The protestors after gathering in the Central Business district, they marched on the government house residence of Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam chanting, “Hong Kong police know the law, they break the law.”

As per the organizer, a group of 22,000 teachers of Hong Kong participated in the rally whereas the police claim that there were only 8.300 teachers involved,

A retired primary school teacher Lee said, “If Carrie bothered to respond to our demands at the very beginning, nobody would have gotten hurt”

The anti-government protests first started out as an opposition to the now-suspended Extradition bill, according to which the Hong Kongers would be tried in the Chinese courts.
