Hong Kong Reports Zero New Coronavirus Cases For First Time Since Early March

Mumbai: Zero new coronovirus cases were reported in Hong Kong on Monday for the first time in early March, health officials said, although they urged residents to maintain strict hygiene and social distance practices and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Chinese-ruled city, which has avoided the exponential growth seen in other parts of the world, has confirmed a total of 1,025 cases and four deaths since it began in January. It was 5 March with already recorded cases.

While schools remain closed, many people are working from home and shopping malls and restaurants are less busy, preventing a complete lockdown imposed in Hong Kong as well as other cities such as London and New York.

Nearly all Hong Kongers wear masks, office buildings, commercial centres and public institutions do temperature checks, and free sanitizer dispensers are widely available.

Hong Kong banned public ceremonies of more than four people for 14 days from 29 March and later extended that ban to 23 April.
