House Help Steals Items Worth INR .4 Lakh, Post Pictures Flaunting Them In Mumbai

Mumbai: A seemingly harmless WhatsApp status update has triggered a theft investigation in Mumbai, after a house help, Rupali Singh, was found flaunting a new outfit and watch—items that belonged to her former employers. The couple, residents of Kandivli, grew suspicious after noticing several belongings missing from their home shortly after Singh abruptly resigned from her position.

Suspicion Arises After Maid’s Resignation

Rupali Singh worked for the couple, which ran an event management business, for two years. She was responsible for cleaning their 3BHK residence and caring for their children. However, Singh suddenly resigned on October 7, 2024, claiming family issues. She told the couple that her parents were going through a legal separation, as reported by Times of India.

Following her resignation, the couple began preparing for the Dussehra festival, only to discover that a new saree was missing from their cupboard. When the wife contacted Singh for clarification, she claimed to have ironed the saree and placed it back in the cupboard. However, the saree remained missing despite a thorough search of the house.

CCTV Footage and WhatsApp Status Raise Red Flags

The couple’s suspicions grew after reviewing CCTV footage from the day of Singh’s departure. The footage revealed Singh leaving the house with bags that appeared unusually full. While they had initially overlooked this detail, the situation took a surprising turn when the wife spotted Singh’s WhatsApp status update. In the post, Singh was wearing a watch and an outfit that matched the description of items missing from their home.

Theft Investigation Unveils Stolen Items Worth Rs 2.4 Lakh

Spurred by the suspicious WhatsApp update, the couple conducted a more detailed search of their house, uncovering a significant array of missing items. Among the stolen goods were jewellery, sunglasses, a children’s bag, and cash, all valued at approximately Rs 2.4 lakh.

Realizing the extent of the theft, the couple reported the incident to Samta Nagar Police Station. A formal case of theft has been registered against Rupali Singh, and authorities are actively investigating leads to locate her.

The seemingly casual WhatsApp post by Rupali Singh has sparked a full-fledged theft investigation, highlighting how digital footprints can play a key role in solving crimes. With the case gaining momentum, the couple hopes to recover their stolen valuables and ensure justice is served.
