I am Confident India Will Win CT 2025 And WTC 2025 Under Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy: Jay Shah

Mumbai: BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming World Test Championship cycle and the Champions Trophy. Shah expressed confidence in India’s potential to secure victories in two more ICC tournaments next year, praising the team’s efforts in their recent T20 World Cup triumph.

Reflecting on India’s journey, Shah recalled backing Rohit Sharma’s leadership, which saw India lift the T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados. He highlighted the resilience shown by the team following the disappointment of the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

“On November 23, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts, but we were not able to win the Cup. I said in Rajkot that on June 29 that we will win hearts, win the Cup and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there,” Shah stated in a video shared by the BCCI.

Looking ahead, Shah is optimistic about India’s chances under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, especially in the World Test Championship final and the Champions Trophy. With the senior trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20Is, their focus will now be on Tests and ODIs.

India, currently leading the World Test Championship table with six wins in nine matches, is set to face Bangladesh and New Zealand in home Tests before a crucial 5-Test series against Australia. The Champions Trophy, returning after 2017, will be held in February-March 2025.

India’s next assignment will be their tour of Sri Lanka, starting later in July, marking the beginning of a busy period for the team as they aim for more international glory under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
