Punjab Government announces subsidiary to 53 lakh families who cannot pay electricity bills

Mumbai: Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi responded to Sidhu’s resignation saying that the party President is like the head of the family and has asked Sidhu to talk and resolve the issue.

“Whoever is party president, is head of the family. I had called him (Navjot Singh Sidhu) & told him that the party is supreme… I have spoken to him on phone and told him to let’s sit, talk it out and resolve the issue,” CM Channi said. Also Read: Congress High Command Adopts Wait & Watch Policy; Sidhu breaks Silence ‘Will Sacrifice Everything’

Sidhu tendered his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at around 3 pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, raising the concern of due electricity bills, he announced a payoff of 53 lakhs Punjabi residences who cannot pay their bills.

“Punjab government will pay the bills of 53 lakh families who cannot pay electricity bills. 75-80 % of consumers come under the 2 KW category…Their last bill will be taken care of, by us. The disconnected electricity connections will be reinstalled,” he said.

He further added, “I have been regularly going to villages in Punjab and electricity is a major issue… Due to the nonpayment of excessive bills, many houses’ meters were disconnected.”
