I Made Mistake Of Leaving BJP Twice, Won’t Repeat This: Nitish

Mumbai: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday assured Union Home Minister Amit Shah that he would “never again” break ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), acknowledging that he had severed ties with the party “twice by mistake,” PTI reported.
Kumar made this statement during a rally in Patna, where he and Shah jointly launched several state and central government projects. His remarks come as Bihar gears up for the upcoming assembly elections.
Nitish Kumar’s Political Realignment
The Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] president reflected on his political journey, recalling his decisions to part ways with the BJP in 2014 before rejoining the alliance in 2017. He explained that his more recent exit from the NDA in 2022 was influenced by “some people in my own party.” However, he reassured the gathering, “I committed the mistake twice. But it is going to be never again.”
Addressing the massive crowd, Kumar seemed visibly pleased, highlighting that the auditorium was filled beyond capacity and echoing with chants of “Jai Shri Ram.”
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to emphasize the developmental strides Bihar has made under his leadership since 2005, citing improvements in healthcare and education. “We came to power in November 2005, and things started to look up,” he said, recalling his earlier partnership with the BJP.
Amit Shah Criticizes Lalu-Rabri Era
After inaugurating projects worth Rs 800 crore, Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its leaders, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, accusing them of fostering an era of “jungle raj” in Bihar. Shah criticized the former regime for corruption and misgovernance, particularly referencing the infamous fodder scam.
“What did Lalu Yadav’s government do in Bihar from 1990 to 2005? Lalu Yadav’s government defamed Bihar in the country and the world by orchestrating a fodder scam across the state. His government will always be known as ‘jungle raj’ in the history of Bihar,” Shah said.
He further asserted that the people of Bihar reject the return of “jungle raj,” gang wars, and criminal activities. Confident about the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s prospects in the upcoming elections, Shah declared, “The NDA will once again form the government in the state with a thumping majority in the assembly polls.”
As Bihar moves closer to the elections, Kumar’s reaffirmed commitment to the BJP and Shah’s sharp critique of the opposition set the stage for an intense political battle in the state.
