I Will Join Samajwadi Party On January 14: BJP MLA Swami Prasad Maurya

Mumbai: BJP MLA Swami Prasad Maurya, who resigned as Uttar Pradesh Minister of Labour, Employment and Coordination on Tuesday, has said he will join Samajwadi Party on January 14.

He further said he has not received calls from any small or big politician.

“If they were cautious on time and worked on public issues, then BJP would not have to face this,” he added.

On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya urged Maurya to reconsider his decision, saying that hasty decisions often go wrong and appealed to the BJP leader to discuss the matter with the party.

Maurya’s daughter and BJP MP from Badaun Sanghamitra Maurya had claimed that her father had not joined any party and would reveal his strategy in a few days.

In his resignation letter addressed to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Maurya said, “I discharged my responsibilities as the minister for labour, employment, coordination in the council of ministers headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, despite adverse (‘vipreet’) circumstances and ideology.”

He further said that the decision to resign was taken due to the attitude of the BJP government towards Dalits, backward classes, farmers, youth and traders.

BJP’s Tindwari MLA Brajesh Prajapati, Tilhar MLA Roshan Lal Verma and Bilhaur MLA Bhagwati Sagar have also announced to quit the party in support of Maurya.

Maurya, who hails from the other backward class (OBC) community, had crossed over to the BJP from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) before the 2017 assembly polls.

He is a five-time MLA from Padrauna, while his daughter Sanghmitra Maurya represents Badaun in the Lok Sabha.
