ICC World Cup 2019: Rishabh Pant To Be A Part Of Team India As Cover For Injured Shikhar Dhawan

Mumbai: Rishab Pant will be a part of team India as injured Shikhar Dhawan will not be available for next two weeks in ongoing World Cup at England, India will be playing their next match against New Zealand on Thursday.

Rishabh Pant will arrive in England on Wednesday after receiving approval from the Indian Cricket Board on Tuesday night.

The BCCI said in a statement: “Team India opener Dhawan is currently under the supervision of BCCI medical team, team management has decided that Dhawan will remain in England and his progress will be monitored.

“Dhawan faced injury on his left arm back in the middle of the index finger and thumb during a league match with Australia on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Pant will join the team and start training straight away. If needed for a game against New Zealand he should be prepared to come to the Indian Playing XI.

Latest reports indicate that Dhawan can be out for only 2 weeks as he only has a minor fracture. In his absence, the Indian team opened against New Zealand on 13 June with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.

Dhawan was hurt after being hit by Pat Cummins during a 117-run innings against Australia in 109 balls.
