Mumbai: India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently opened up about the team’s remarkable performances in ICC tournaments. Under his leadership, India secured the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, further cementing their dominance on the international stage.
In a video shared by Mumbai Indians, Rohit reflected on the team’s journey, recalling the heartbreak of losing the 2023 ODI World Cup final. However, he highlighted India’s consistent success, noting that they remained unbeaten throughout the T20 World Cup 2024 and the 2025 Champions Trophy while losing just one game in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“Imagine if we had won the 2023 ODI World Cup final. To go undefeated in three ICC tournaments is crazy, never heard of. But I will take this: 22 wins in 23 games is unheard of. Again, when you see this—22 wins out of 23 games—it looks very nice from the outside. But the team has gone through a lot of ups and downs. We had some really tough times as well, but that is when you get to celebrate. When you do things like this, you have to celebrate, and you deserve everything there,” Rohit said.

The Indian skipper also acknowledged the contributions of players who featured in all three ICC tournaments under his leadership, stating that they deserve immense respect for their efforts. Despite the disappointment of losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India bounced back strongly to claim the Champions Trophy title.
“So I feel that all the people who played these three tournaments deserve respect. After the T20 World Cup 2024, we had a little bit of a low where we lost a home series and didn’t play well in Australia. And then came the Champions Trophy. These nine months were a perfect example of how life is,” Rohit added.
