Imagine The Signal We Are Sending To The World: SC On Delhi Pollution

Delhi's air quality slipped into the very poor category this morning with Air Quality Index at 357

Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Wednesday continued hearing cases related to the rising air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR and asked to imagine the signal India is sending to the world, with the increasing air pollution in the national capital.

The apex court told the Centre to take anticipation in measures and not wait for the weather to become more severe, adding to continue the measures for controlling air pollution for the next two-three days.

Senior advocate Vikas Singh appearing for the petitioner that alleged as per media reports, fines are not being imposed on farmers in Punjab to please them for polls later next year.

Responding to this, SC said it isn’t concerned with this issue & ‘it can’t micromanage such things’.

The court further told the Centre that they will not close the case and continue hearing until they issue directions.

“We are not going to close this case. Even if pollution goes down now, we will continue to hear this case and issue directions. Take the measures for the next three days. We will hear it again on Monday. In the meantime if the situation improves, lift some bans,” the court added.

The Supreme Court will hear the case next on November 29.

Delhi’s air quality slipped into the very poor category this morning as low temperatures and slow surface winds allowed the accumulation of pollutants. The city’s air quality index (AQI) read 357 at 9 am.
